Dance and Creative Movement - youth classes

Designed for participants aged 12-18, these fortnightly classes draw on principles from a range of different creative dance and movement practices. Each class is built around a different theme, and makes use of mindful direction, music and selected props to help extend creativity and physical expression. The result is an integrated movement experience that can be grounding, relaxing, playful, soulful, joyful and anything in between!

Classes incorporate individual, small group and whole class work, and each session includes aesthetic and design-based exploration as well as physical movement. Any young person wanting to move or extend their creativity in a new direction is welcome - no previous dance experience required.

About the teacher:

Meah Velik-Lord is the Artistic Director of Travel Art Dance Company and has been teaching, choreographing and performing with the group since 2003. Meah holds a Diploma in Teaching Creative Dance from Mangala Studios of Yoga and Creative Dance, where she has been dancing herself since early childhood, a Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy from Dance Therapy NZ, and is a Veriditas-trained labyrinth facilitator.

Classes are held on Saturday afternoons, 1:45-3:00pm at the Red Door Studio, 5 Blackwood Pde Heidelberg West.

Five-class series $125 (full) / $100 (conc), or part-series enrolment available by request.
